Inspiring the Next Generation of Writers

The Prof. Olusola Ajolore Award for Creative Wordsmith is a prestigious annual writing competition established to recognize and celebrate exceptional creative writing talent among secondary school students in Mopa, Kogi State, Nigeria.

This award honors the legacy of Prof. Olusola Ajolore by encouraging young people to use their voices to inspire change, think critically, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.


Applications Now Open

Application Period: July 20 – September 30, 2026

All completed applications and essays must be submitted by 11:59 PM (WAT) on September 30, 2026. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Scholarship Awards

The top three essays will receive a combined ₦1,000,000 education scholarship, awarded as follows:

🥇 First Place ₦500,000

🥈 Second Place  ₦300,000

🥉 Third Place₦200,000

Winners will also receive:

  • 🏆 Prof. Olusola Ajolore Crystal Trophy
  • 📜 Certificate of Excellence
  • 🎖 Recognition at the Annual Prof. Olusola Ajolore Award Ceremony


Scholarship Terms

The scholarship is intended solely for educational purposes and will not be paid directly to recipients as cash.Funds will be paid directly to schools or approved vendors for expenses such as:

  • School tuition and fees
  • WAEC, NECO, and JAMB registration fees
  • University admission and registration costs
  • Books, laptops, and other approved learning materials



2026 Essay Theme

"My Vision for My Community"

Applicants are encouraged to share their hopes, ideas, and aspirations for the future of their community through an original and compelling essay.


Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in SS1–SS3 at a secondary school in Mopa, Kogi State.
  • Demonstrate good academic standing and exemplary character.
  • Submit an original essay that meets all competition requirements.

Essay Requirements

  • Original essay only
  • 1,000–1,500 words
  • Typed and double-spaced
  • Times New Roman, 12-point font
  • Must not have been previously published or entered into another competition


Terms and Responsibilities

Selection Process

Every submission undergoes a fair and independent review process:

  1. Application and essay submission
  2. Eligibility screening
  3. Independent evaluation by a panel of educators and writers
  4. Selection of the top three highest-scoring essays


Recipient Responsibilities

Award recipients are expected to:

  • Maintain good academic standing throughout the award year.
  • Use scholarship funds only for approved educational expenses.
  • Provide proof of enrollment before scholarship funds are disbursed.
  • Serve as the Prof. Olusola Ajolore Creative Writing Ambassador for one year, promoting literacy and creative writing within the Mopa community.
